All Last Day Prophecies Have Come To Pass Before The Ending Of The Old Covenant
Are there any prophecies that must be fulfilled before Jesus Christ’s Second Coming? The short answer is NO! In fact, the Second Coming is an Old Covenant promise found in Malachi 3:1-5.
What is significant about this? Well, God had to bring to pass ALL Old Covenant prophecies before He could end the Old Covenant!
Jesus Said All Prophecies Of The Old Covenant Would Come To Pass In That Generation To Whom He Preached To. That Included His Second Coming!
“…ALL THINGS must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.” Luke 24:44
The Law of Moses, or the Torah, was the Old Covenant. ‛The Prophets’ were the Old Covenant prophetic scriptures.
ALL (not most) of the prophecies from the Old Covenant, according to Jesus, must and would come to pass!
Not only would they come to pass, but they were to come to pass in the very generation of Israel to whom he had been sent! “Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled!” Matt 24:34
That generation of Israel passed away 2000 years ago, as well as the fulfillment of all the prophecies! According to the teaching of Christ, there are now NO remaining Old Testament unfulfilled prophecies!
The foremost and overarching reason for the Second Coming of Christ was to complete God’s Old Covenant Obligation with Israel. This is possibly the most overlooked, if not least known, truth in all the scripture. All last day Old Testament promises and prophecies must be fulfilled and brought to pass before the ending of the Old Covenant.
The Old Covenant did not end when Christ on the Cross cried out: “It is finished.”
God could not end the Old Covenant at the Cross while there were still several unfulfilled prophesies and promises.
The Old Covenant ended when the Romans destroyed the Temple at Jerusalem!
All Prophecies are God’s Promises
A covenant binds God to fulfill his promises to Israel. If there is so much as one unfulfilled promise, He cannot end the covenant. In fact, God himself said: “My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.” Psalms 89:34
Here are the IMMUTABLE Facts concerning the Old Testament Prophecies
- God made those promises within the context and parameters of the Old Covenant!
- God therefore must fulfill ALL of those promises before He ended the Old Covenant!
- If God ended the Old Covenant with even one promise unfulfilled, He has broken the Covenant!
- If there remains today even one promise unfulfilled, then the Old Covenant is still in effect!
Here are just 3 last day Old Covenant promises which were not yet fulfilled at the time of the Cross
1. Promise of the Spirit; Ezek 36:26-27; Joel 2:28-29
2. Promise of Resurrection, victory over the realm of death; Hos 13:14; Dan 12:2,13
3. Promise of the Messiah – 2nd Coming; Mal 3:1-5
According to the terms of a covenant, all these Promises must have come to pass before that Covenant ended!
This indicates that there are no bible prophecies not yet fulfilled! Even the prophecies of Jesus second coming have all been fulfilled. Many do not realize that the second coming prophecies were given to Israel in the Old Covenant, so had to be fulfilled in their time.
